Lamp for Work Space

My work space was painted one weekend in November. The color was lighter and the three of us in that space found that it was a bit too bright with the ceiling lights turned on. It didn’t occur to me to come up with another decision. However, another staff member decided immediately to get a table lamp. Ahhhhh, good idea! I had always wanted to personalize my space in my prior position, but it wasn’t practical for the area in which I worked. But I was eager to find a lamp. I went to Target, JCP, Walmart, Staples, and Pier 1.

JCP had this apothecary lamp:

I thought it might fit in the corner area. I had recently asked Facilities to switch my desk return from the 2’ x 6.5’ to a deeper desk, 2.5’ x 5.5’. But it turned out that the shorter return found me backing into my open file drawer. Next week they will trade it back for the first one. So I’ll gain length and lose depth, and I won’t be backing into the drawer, unless I really back up strongly.

The same day, I found this cute paperclip lamp at Pier 1, for $60, which was more than I wanted to spend. I’m not one who usually likes such cleverness. But I liked this lamp immediately.

I also found lamp bases and shades at Walmart and bought two bases and two shades to try out. I was able to eliminate one base when I looked at them at home, but I wasn’t sure which shade would be better. Here’s what they look like in the space.
I thought I would like the homeyness of the bell shade, but once I tried them in the office I preferred the drum shade. I gave up on the paperclip lamp and I’ve been using the lamp with the drum shade for a couple weeks.

The pictures below are with the shorter, deeper desk. On Monday they will switch out the left part of the desk, making it 6 inches short in depth, and it will go another foot to the left. You can see that there is plenty of room toward the corner, and the lamp will fit fine.
