In general, however, I enjoy the various arrangements of “Still, Still, Still,” and I find the Manheim Steamroller version to be right at the top. However, the song itself is so beautiful that many other versions are beautiful.
I also listened to versions of “In the Bleak Midwinter.”
An instrumental version by Tine
Thing Helseth is amazingly presented! The Gloucester Cathedral Choir version
makes my heart stop, with voices of all ages. Chanticleer
offers another lovely arrangement. Their page links here. One lovely version is by Sissel, and here is her link. So lovely!
A coworker, exchanging music links with me, shared these
links. “One of the most—if not the most—beautiful trumpet pieces ever written
in my option is the concerto by Georg Telemann (1681-1767). The trumpet
on the first version
is a modern brass, it has a more piercing sound, and clearer tone. The second recording is one
with a full Baroque chamber orchestra, with period instruments, including the
trumpet.”
So today, I am thankful for beautiful music.
I am thankful Christmas spirit that warms my heart and
tunes my thinking to the gift from God of His Son, the baby in the manger who
grew up to pay the debt for my sin.
